Thank you to all of the Primary Schools in our common bond, who have participated in our School Garden competition – a sub-competition of our very popular Pride in our Place initiative.
A big shout out to Brian Cloonan of Cloonan’s Hardware, who sponsored seedling potatoes & onions, as well as providing flower seeds. We are very grateful for your generous support.
10 schools participated, with Charleville NS having to withdraw as building works were due to commence during the judging sessions. The other 9 schools each prepared, planted and tended their garden areas, some from scratch and some using existing spaces.
Each school garden was visited and marks allocated under general appearance, variety of plants, creativity and of course, there was a sustainability element.
Thanks to the teachers in each school – who allowed us to interrupt their school day for visits.
But of course, the big THANK YOU has to go to the students, who engaged so willingly and literally got their hands dirty – and we hope learned a lot.
We have visited the winning schools to make the presentations.
Congratulatory letters, certificates and a donation to the remaining 6 schools have been sent in the post.
