Lending Officer

The Role

The loans officer will report directly to the lending Supervisor and will support the lending unit in growing our loan book in accordance with our Strategic plan.

Reporting directly to the Loans Supervisor , the loans officer will provide an efficient service to members within their authorised credit sanction limits ( discretion) in accordance with the Lending Policy, as approved by the Board of Directors of the Credit Union.

Key responsibilities will include;

Provide a first-class service to members in adherence with board policies and procedures for the delivery of loan underwriting.

Liaison between members and the Credit Union helping members to obtain loans, set up payment plans. Meet Members, prepare loan proposals, underwrite, and submit loans applications in a timely manner and examine active loans. Respond to members questions and resolve any loan related issues.

Manage Different Types of Loans including home loans, business loans, community loans and individual member loans.

Assesses loans in a consistent and diligent manner in accordance with legislation, regulation and the Standard Rules for Credit Union as well as the policies and procedures set out in the Credit Unions written Credit Policy and Procedures.

Ensures implementation of the formal Credit (Lending) Policy and contributes to the development of credit policy and credit procedures by providing advice, expertise, and practical assistance, as required.

Assists and supports the activities of the Credit Committee.

Analyse active loan files on a regular basis and recommend solutions to speed up the loans process / implement leaner process.

Increase the mortgage portfolio through promoting mortgage products, and responsibility for mortgage pipeline. 

Looks after all aspects of loan administration, liaises with solicitors in relation to preforming security, ensures safekeeping of credit agreements and other relevant documentation.

To complete mandatory annual CPD hours ensuring familiarity with procedures surrounding CCR, AML , identification of suspicious transactions for reporting to MLRO.

Liaises with the Marketing function and co-ordinate promotional campaigns to enhance the loan book in line with the strategic direction of the Credit Union.

To undertake such other reasonable and lawful duties as may be directed by the loans supervisor / MSDM from time to time.

Skills and Experience Required:

3rd level qualification in a business discipline desired but not essential. QFA certification. APA for Loans is required.

3+ years’ experience desired across multiple lines (Personal / Commercial / Mortgage) – preferably in a Credit Union environment.

Ability to focus on target delivery within agreed budgetary constraints.

Experience in communicating in a persuasive, credible manner, in person, in digital settings, and in writing and presentations. 

Ability to manage multiple competing workstreams simultaneously and meet deadlines, while adapting to changing circumstances and adhering to high standards of personal and professional integrity

An understanding of the evolving credit union model and ethos

Experience working in the financial service industry with credit union experience preferable.

Proactive and positive change agent

A team player who can work with stakeholders in other functions to achieve objectives.

Dynamic, creative, and self-motivated individual

Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills.

Strong Commercial Acumen
